Mount Alvernia
Mount Alvernia, also known as Como Hill, is the highest point on the Bahamas, with an elevation of 206 feet. It is very unique to The Bahamas topography, as the elevation of the majority of the land is less than 3 feet. It is located on Cat island, which is accessible by both sea and air. It was named after Monsignor John Hawes, who was a Roman Catholic Priest. Although it might look like a cathedral from the ground, it is actually a hermitage built by John Hawes, who was a skilled architect and sculptor. He is also known for building other cathedrals, such as Holy Redeemers throughout the Bahamas. To get to the top of the hill, you have to climb a steep stone staircase up a rocky incline, but as you are climbing to the top, you can see some beautiful hand carved stone. To sum it up, Mount Alvernia is the highest point and a unique geographical feature on the Bahamas.
