The Bahamas Flag
Self-Drawn Flag

The Bahamian flag was first officially hoisted on July 10, 1973, the date when the nation gained independence from the United Kingdom. It came from a local competition for the nation’s new flag, but it was actually a combination of multiple flags made in the competition. The Bahamas flag has a black equilateral triangle on the left side and the rest of the flag consists, from top to bottom, a horizontal aquamarine strip, a horizontal gold (looks yellow) stripe, and a horizontal aquamarine stripe. The aquamarine stripes represent the water surrounding the Bahamas and the gold stripe represents the sun, sand, and other rich land resources that are important to the country. The black triangle represents the people and the people's strength.
