Traditional Foods in The Bahamas

Conch (pronounced konk): Cracked Conch is breaded and fried in a similar way a veal cutlet would be. It is served in many ways, some of the most common being curried or in a Creole sauce.

Conch Salad: Conch Salad is uncooked Conch with spicy peppers, citrus sauce, and vegetables.

Johnnycakes: Similar to South American Cornbread, Johnnycakes are the unofficial bread of the Bahamas. They are made with milk, sugar, butter, and flour and are often enjoyed with stews and curries

Souse (pronounced sowse): Souse is a famous savory Bahamian stew with onions, lime juice, celery, peppers, potatoes, carrots, bay leaves, and meat

Fish Stew: A hearty fish stew with bold flavors, typically served with rice.

Guava Duff: A spongy cake made with dough and guava, and served with rum or brandy batter.
